Sort before you wash anything. Three piles: Grade A ready to sell after cleaning, Grade B needing repair, and pieces to move cheaply in bundles. With heavy jackets the call is made on zippers, linings and seams, not on overall appearance — a puffer straight out of a bale is always flat and creased, which tells you nothing about its condition.

Care by piece type

Puffers: wash at 30 °C, gentle cycle, liquid detergent, never fabric softener — it clumps the fill. The detail that makes the difference: tumble dry on low with two or three tennis balls. It's the only way to break up the clumps and bring back the original loft. A puffer dried flat stays flat, and sells badly. Check the seams too: one that leaks fill is Grade B.
Parkas: remove the faux-fur hood trim before washing and brush it dry — it mats in the machine. Check quilted linings, which often come apart at the armholes.
Coach jackets and nylon windbreakers: wash at 30 °C, and never put an iron directly on nylon, which melts or glazes. Steam them on a hanger instead.
All pieces: close every zipper before washing. A sticking zipper usually frees up by rubbing graphite pencil lead along the teeth — two minutes that move a piece from Grade B to Grade A.

Resale strategy

List from late September. Demand climbs through October and peaks in November and December. Puffers run longer, peaking into January during cold snaps.
Sell individually. Unit value here is too high to dilute in a bundle.
Price the weight in. Puffers and parkas cost a lot to ship, and that's the number one cause of abandoned carts on this category. Always offer a pickup point and build postage into your listed price rather than letting buyers find it at checkout.
Shoot on a hanger or on a model, never flat — flat shots crush the shape on bulky pieces. Add a close-up of the embroidered logo and a shot of the brand label.
