Bale of 80 Vintage Crazy Pattern Fleeces
Nothing on the label sets the price here — the pattern does. Eighty vintage fleeces in loud prints: colour-blocking, geometric panels, abstract grounds. Two pieces cut exactly the same way can resell at double the difference depending on what they carry across the chest.
Full-zip fleeces with lined high collars, elasticated hems and drawcords, often with zipped or welt pockets — the standard build of a 90s hiking fleece. Quarter-zip and high-collar models, cut like sweatshirts, which make up the bulk of a bale. Sherpa and looped-pile pieces, long-napped and far more readable in a photo. And sleeveless fleece vests along with pullover anoraks, half-zip or with a kangaroo pocket. Prints run from bold colour-blocking to geometric and abstract panels, taking in aztec-inspired motifs and multicoloured grounds.
With no brand to carry the price, the value is read off the piece itself. The boldest prints — large panels, strong contrast, saturated colours — sell one at a time to buyers hunting the pattern rather than the label. Sherpa and looped-pile pieces reach a younger fashion buyer, as sensitive to the fabric as to the print. Muted prints and washed-out colourways form the useful entry level: slower turnover, lower price, but volume that keeps a shop moving. Sleeveless vests resell below sleeved pieces at equal condition and equal print.
This is a niche market, and that is exactly where its value lies: demand sits with a small but well-informed group of buyers who know the product, actively search for it and rarely haggle when a piece is right. That audience reaches well beyond any single country — Germany, the Netherlands and the Nordic markets are among the most active on patterned fleece.
Fleece follows the warm-knit cycle: demand picks up in late August, peaks from October to December and holds through February. The raw material therefore arrives several months ahead of the season it sells in, at a point where the category is still uncrowded. The print adds a permanent floor to that cycle: a patterned fleece is bought as much for the look as for the warmth, which keeps it moving outside the cold months where a plain fleece simply stops.
Cuts are straight and fairly roomy, in keeping with the period, and many pieces wear equally well on a man or a woman. Sizes come assorted as received: period sizing generally runs larger than its present-day equivalent.
